Harewood Tee Times
As I am sure you will agree, the Harewood Cup is probably the most important mens handicap competition of the year and in light of the ever increasing number of entries (and the obvious congestion problems this causes on the 1st tee), it has been agreed by the General Committee it should take precedence over all other golfing activities on its designated date - this year Saturday 4th June - this Saturday.
It has been agreed the following course of action will be introduced this year:
The 1st tee will be reserved solely for those members playing in the Harewood Cup from start of play until 11.00am; and
Thereafter, priority on the 1st tee will be given to those members playing their second rounds.
In order for this to succeed, it is incumbent upon all players to plan their day appropriately and not to all turn up at 9am and expect to tee off immediately - consideration should also be given to whether it will be more expedient to play a 2 ball or 3 ball and if you are out early, don't dawdle!
Lady Captain & Professional Challenge Match
The first game of these eagerly awaited matches was played last week and this season's inaugural challengers were consistent performers, Sheila Reid and Sarah Watson.
After a 'nip and tuck' start to the game, Captain Joyce took the bull by the horns when she rolled in a monster putt on the sixth for a nett two! She then calmly followed that with a net two on the seventh to get us to three up and in control.
However, Sheila and Sarah were not phased, as they got themselves back in the match with the help of four nett birdies and a nett eagle, over the next nine holes, to be just one down stood on the 17th tee.
I then played the 17th almost perfectly to make my fifth birdie of the day which snuck Joyce and I through two and one. No surprise but this was a fun game played in a great spirit thanks Joyce, Sheila and Sarah.
Ladies 36 Hole Competition
14 of our intrepid ladies set out on this marathon and 14 ladies finished, all of them winners. The format is great, play round one, full handicap stableford, then in round two you look to improve on your first round scores wherever you can, brilliant! With a little help from Jack at the AIZ, the ever improving Heather Swarbrick made the most of this format to score a superb 42 points to take the title, but she was pushed all the way by Linda Wilson with 41 points. Sheila Reid and Annabel Franklin were tied third on 37 points.
Ladies Saturday Stableford
Jo Denby produced a solid display last weekend to win the ladies Saturday Stableford with 29 points. Second home was Annabel Franklin with 25 points. The final podium spot could only be separated by countback, with Barbara McLenachan edging out Bernadette Clark.
Battle of the Bousfield's
We had a battle of two Bousfield's on Monday, with Jonte taking on Ross in the Beaumont third round. Jonte was up against it early, finding himself four down after only a handful of holes.
After playing every day of the bank holiday weekend (including a trip to play Formby) it was always going to be tough to muster the energy to come back from that!
And so it proved, as Ross played some very solid golf to close out the match and book his spot in the 4th round with a 3&2 victory.
Hole in One for Pierre
Pierre Bouvet and Karen Hogarth were taking on Mo and Peter Johnston in a Crawford match, last Saturday. Pierre and Karen ran out one up winners, but only after Pierre managed a fantastic hole in one on the 7th!
He took to the tee with a trusty 7 iron, struck it perfectly and it flew dead straight onto the green before rolling out into the hole! Mo Johnston (pictured with Pierre) said she could only admire the shot.
Wedge Offer
Many of you will know we have the buy a Cleveland wedge, get another at 50% off deal currently running. This was fantastically supported last year, and with good reason. If your wedges aren't properly gapped you are throwing away shots.
Ideally you'd have 4 degree gaps in between each wedge. On top of this, if you have too much or too little bounce on the bottom of the club, you're going to find you fat or thin it too often.
So come and have a FOC AIZ Fitting where we will examine your gaps, lengths you hit each wedge, and with the help of the GC2 Launch Monitor tell you if you need some new tech or newly gapped wedges. We're here to help you!
Callaway Demo Day
Just over a week away is the Callaway Demo Day. This is the last major demo day we have booked in for, so if you're thinking about trying out some new clubs and want the best service possible from the Callaway Tech Rep, this is for you!
We're taking bookings in the shop, so please CLICK HERE to book you place and improve your golf.
