Club news

Our Ladies Scratch Team are… CHAMPIONS!!

A huge congratulations goes to the Ladies scratch team, who won the 2nd division and therefore qualified to play in the top tier next year!! Morag Ross, Sheila Reid, Angela Brophy, Karen Hogarth, Julie Gray, Hilary Sewell, Glad Cook, Jilly Hopkins, Kirsty Beckwith and Christine Thomas all took part and were led by their brilliant team captain - Debbie Howarth.

I'd like to wish them all the best for next year, we're truly going to be up against some quality teams - very exciting times!

Ladies Prize Day

Carol Briggs returned from an injury lay-off to find the winners enclosure with a stunning round of golf. She scored 45 points during Linda Wilson & Maddie Shucksmith's prize day.

The scoring was to be done on a GOOD, BAD, AND UGLY system. That means you nominate 6 holes to have your points doubled (good), 6 where your points are as per usual (bad) and 6 where your points are halved (Ugly).

So it was a mixture of scoring when you had to, and not worrying if you mess up on one of your bad holes.

Alongside Carol's awesome score, there were plenty of funky western-esque outfits worthy of prizes of their own!

Jane Guckian
even brought a pair of water pistols… as I'm sure many of the 'wetted' can attest to! You can see a few of the cowboy hats below!

Following Carol in with other brilliant scores, were: Annie Wildblood (44.5 pts & winner of the Bronze Div) Christine Thomas (44.5pts), Joyce Storer (43.5) Sarah Watson (43).

Well played to all the ladies on what was a great day, and a big thanks to Linda and Maddie for organising and running it.

Upcoming events

Ladies Mackenzie Gathering - Course Busy Next Week

The Ladies Mackenzie Gathering commences on Sunday 31 July with an evening cocktail party for 200 guests, so the bar and kitchen will close to members at 4pm.

On Monday, the 1st tee closes at 2pm for course preparation, and is reserved for members only up until that time. Tuesday is dedicated to the Mackenzie event, with two shotgun starts and Wednesday is the final day of the competition with an early morning shotgun start. The course will be available to members from 3.30pm on Wednesday, although there will be limited bar and catering services due to the presentation lunch after golf.

This looks like being a very cosmopolitan event with players flying in from all corners of the globe.

FootJoy Fitting Day

On the 30th July 10am-2pm we're hosting a special FootJoy Fitting day. A representative from Footjoy (Lewis) will be down here with a full range of the Footjoy shoes, and will be measuring people for their true size.

It was very interesting last year to see the MAJORITY of you were using incorrectly fitted shoes, this is proven to lessen the distance you hit the ball.

Please click here to book in. We will keep your details in a database so if you ever want to order a pair, we can get the exact specifications to suit you, and your swing.

You can see a few pics from last year, below.

Tips from the team

John

If you are playing a competition away from home, how about visiting the away clubs website before you go. Look at the yardage of each course and each hole and compare to AGC. If there is a hole by hole guide then this can be very revealing. Also take a look at the gallery or any other photos. The more information you have before you play each hole the less surprises you will have and the easier each hole and the course becomes.

Jack

Nutrition tip: try eating a square of Yorkie every 3 holes to maintain consistent energy levels and play to your full potential.

Joe

Pushing your hips forward and 'standing up' on the downswing (technical term is early extending) often causes the heel of the club to be off the ground at impact. This causes a lot of strikes toward the toe, as well as off the bottom off the clubface. See below, how, by working on getting the clubhead flat on the ground through impact, you greatly increase your potential hitting area and therefore your consistency.
