Ladies MacKenzie Gathering
We had an absolutely fantastic few days for the Ladies MacKenzie gathering.
Although it meant myself, Joe and Jack working 5.45am - 7pm on the Tuesday and 6.30am - 6.45pm on the Wednesday, it was absolutely worth it. Everybody grouped together to put on a brilliantly run event. I'd like to thank all the volunteers who aided, especially the cake bakers who kept me and the boys fully topped up with tasty treats!

With regards the winners, Bridgett Meredith managed to follow up her win in Royal Melbourne by winning both days this year… incredible!
Perhaps miss the next one Bridgett to give somebody else a chance?!
You can see some pics here, look how busy that first tee was!
PING Iron's - AIZ review
With the arrival of the new iBlade, this completes PING's current range of 4 irons that cover all possible bases for all possible players - an iron for everyone! So, this week I've been out and tested all of them to see what the differences in technology in each iron means for forgiveness, distance, consistency and all-around shot shape… I must say I was massively impressed with the range!
G Max - Looked very big. Amazingly, shots from the bottom of the clubface (half thins) went only 3-5 yards behind my best strikes. So if your bad shot (for most it is…) is a semi thin, or a shot off the bottom of the clubface, these are AMAZING. The only downside would be this was shorter in distance than the G, but I guess it's all about consistency! I'd strongly recommend this to mid-high handicappers looking for consistency.
G - Amazed by how far this went. Felt incredibly solid off the face and was by far the furthest. Only downside would be the dispersion between a good and bad hit which was 11 yards. This had a lovely high launch with lower spin than the G Max which I enjoyed the look and feel of. This is an ideal iron for all abilities, with the results and feel surprising me a little bit by how good they were.
I - I couldn't use the i. It felt like a large less-offset club. It has a larger length from heel to toe compared to the iBlade, which didn't suit my eye. Performance wise, it was again very good. It was a little shorter than the others and launched lower than the more 'game improvement' clubs, which you'd expect. This is ideal for your low-mid handicappers who want a forgiving club that's beginning to look more like a players club. I'm too much of a purist sometimes!
iBlade - Loved this!! As a replacement for the S55 it was extremely consistent, with all shots within 3 yards of each other. It looked great, felt soft, and flew as far as the larger headed i. I'd say this is a great club for low-mid handicappers. It's far more forgiving than a traditional blade, which is down to it not being forged. It's got a slight cavity and has more tech in the head to aid your off centre hits.
In conclusion I loved the look and feel of the new 'i-Blade' but I can feel myself being seduced by the extra distance and forgiveness of the amazing 'G'.
I cannot recommend highly enough the PING range. The AIZ offer a FOC custom fit with the tour proven GC2 launch monitor which takes any guesswork out of the process. To book in for your fitting, please click here and help us to improve your game.
Mixed Invitation Day
On Sunday we had a great turn out for the Members Mixed Invitation day, with 12 teams of four taking to the course from one o'clock. The format was full handicaps, best two stableford points to count on each hole. With the catering staff getting the dining room looking fantastic, we eagerly awaited the results.
The winners were Sara Gilmore & Angela Brophy with guests Stuart Carlisle & David Wrigglesworth, with a brilliant 81pts. No shock that this pair of low handicappers put in a solid score! You can see them below celebrating their success.
Second home were David & Joyce Storer with guests Ian and Rosemary Jane. They scored a very solid 77 points.
Other notable mentions - Nearest the pin for the gents was won by Geoff Emmet, with Fran Dickson taking the nearest the pin for the ladies.
Thanks to all that played.
It was a great event played in great spirits, same again next year!
