SAGS Event
The SAGS had their annual golf event on Saturday, with a massive turnout. The format was simple, players were only allowed 3 clubs and a putter, full handicap yellow tee stableford best score wins.
It's a very well organised day where all players get a prize regardless of score, then sit down for a beautiful AGC dinner in the evening.
The winner, with an amazing 36 points and beating David Strachan via countback on the last 6 holes, was James Espley. It's really great play by both players to score so well in such terrible conditions. James puts his victory down to his Seve like creativity and ability to control trajectory and spin from the middle of the fairway.
Things he must have picked up when having a course of lessons last year.
A special mention must also go for the hottest player in the club at the minute, Richard Irving, who had 34 points stood on the 17th tee but then failed to score on either of the last 2 holes. I feel slightly bad for mentioning this, but when you shoot a nett 60 you have to be prepared for the fame and criticism that all top players get!
A fantastic looking prize table with James Espley and David Strachan picking up their prizes.
Winter Winds
Big changes this week! Richard James produced a nett 62 to jump up to first place with a total of 197. He managed this score despite two doubles on the card as well!
Jonathan Gribbon also jumped up a few spots with a nett 64 to get him into joint second with long-time leader Clive Marjoram.

Partner a Pro Competition
Coming up on Saturday, 11 February is the next event in the fun Winter Series OOM, the Partner a Pro Competition. The format is simple enough, you pick blindly out of six potential professionals to play alongside. All six of them have scored 69 in a variety of ways, your job is to play a better ball with them and score the lowest possible combined medal score. Ladies will receive 3 courtesy shots.
This is the 5th scoring event out of 7 for the Winter Series OOM, with still anybody able to win if they put a couple of wins together.

John - In the bunker you want the ball towards your front foot and your weight favouring your front foot as well.
- This ensures you hit behind the ball in the sand and helps the ball pop up in the air escaping the sand trap.
Joe - Practice your chipping from tight and bare lies. Don't move the ball onto a nice lie every time as that doesn't represent course conditions.
- Contextual practice is academically proven to have very effective results on performance.
Jack -Our Titleist beanies are perfect for the winter/spring conditions and are seen weekly on tour. They're £16.99, which is a snip considering they'll make you hit it ten yards further.
- Keeping your extremities warm will help your body fight the elements and keep your muscles relaxed so you can swing freely.
