Mixed Invitation Day
With thunderstorms forecast, the Mixed Invitation was under threat. After discussions that included rearrange the day, play 12 holes, play 9 holes or bring it forward, Captain Mike Sleath stepped up and made the decision to go ahead with the day as planned. Well it pretty much worked out, the lightning and thunder didn’t happen and apart from a downpour towards the end of the day that caught the last few teams the event went as planned. The format was a team of four three to count on par threes and two to count on the rest – Stableford and helped by an impressive gross 70 by six handicap Steve O’Loughlin he and his team consisting of Richard Goodhall, Fiona Goodhall and Alisa Jarvas scored a fine 90 points, which agonisingly fell one short. The eventual winners were David and Julie Gray with guests Diana and Roy King. It was an archetypal team effort with each player doing their bit when needed; Julie making gross two on the 11th and a nett three on the 13th, David making nett birdies on the 4th and 8th, Diana scoring three points on the 9th and 16th and Roy doing his bit with brilliant three pointers on the 9th and 15th. This barrage of great golf all added up to a brilliant 91 points that took top prize. Bernadette Clark knocked it close on the 7th and Peter Johnston almost stiffed it on the 14th and so were the nearest the pin winners. Very well played to all.
