Carry Bags Galore at the AIZ

With it now being winter, it's of course the time of the year when the course may well be 'carrying only.' With this in mind we've stocked up on a wide variety of carry bags, ranging from the small and light to the big and bulky and everything in between.

A personal favourite of mine is the Wilson Qs bag. This bag is small and light but still gives enough room for you to have 14 clubs in there. It's very well made and is a fantastic price point compared to other bags in the same size/weight bracket.

On the other end of the scale is the superb PING hoofer 14 bag. This bag can is a huge size and can carry anything and everything you may need, whilst still being lightweight and highly practical. Any questions - just ask!

Christine Thomas Puts on Sparkling Display

The ladies 5 clubs & a putter competition was held on Tuesday and it was very well attended considering the rain that we'd had the night before/early that morning. As per usual when we hold competitions with 'half-sets,' the scoring was very impressive and perhaps even better than usual. Interesting huh?!

The winner in fine style was Christine Thomas. Christine is starting to come into form with another win in recent weeks and some good golf being played. The current trend is certainly an upward one - keep it going Christine! Big year next year!

Runner up was Hilary Sewell with 37 points. Out in 18 and back in 19, Hilary didn't have one blob in this fantastically consistent card. Winner of the bronze division with 33 points was Jane Guckian. Well done to the three of you and thanks for everyone that entered.

SkyCaddie Stock

Fresh into the shop are some of the brand new SkyCaddie ranges: The Aire II's, watches and Lynx watches. These give you three great price points and three great options for yourself or friends and family this Christmas!

Aire II £129
The SkyCaddie AIRE II is ready-to-play with over 35,000 pre-loaded courses when you purchase the item. Its intelligent automation (auto-course select, auto-hole advance and auto-distance) keeps your hands free and mind focused on playing the best golf of your life.

Watch £149
The SkyCaddie Watch isn't just another golf GPS watch! It's an attractive, lightweight, flexible and comfortable everyday sport watch that just happens to provide superior performance on the golf course. It gives exact measurements to the front, middle and back of the green meaning you can concentrate on improving your scoring straight away.

Linx Watch £169
A step up from the standard watch. The Linx offers all the above as well as lengths to lay-up targets from tee to green. It also has a sunlight-readable, high definition display, making it the most legible watch on the market.

Stromberg WinterTech Trousers
We've recently taken stock of some brand new WinterTech trousers from Stromberg. These are ideal for all year use as they have the look/feel of a normal trouser, but are FULLY WATERPROOF! These are brilliant and it's no surprise we've done fantastically well with them already. The price point is also very attractive at £59.99. I have a wide variety of leg lengths and waist sizes so feel free to pop in and try some out - I may even throw a glass of water over you to prove the they're 100% waterproof!

Winter Winds Update

Another week has passed and the table is pictured below. As you can see, with 2 cards in we have current leaders of Clive Marcham followed by David Austin-Jones. Clive's score of 213 is very solid - I wouldn't expect that to be too many shots of getting a top 16 spot, so not much improvement to be made.

As you can see we have a group of players chasing with great scores though!

Any queries, drop us an email by clicking here and we will get back to you ASAP. Good luck all!

Frozen Fingers latest

The leader board is beginning to fill up as the ladies get busy handing in their frozen fingers cards! See the current leader board below.

As you can see, with two cards in, Morag leads the way on 159 with Jo Denby in hot pursuit. The chasing pack with one card in is growing though and this looks sure to be a low scoring affair. Keep handing the cards in ladies, it's good to see so many of you playing regularly.

The Bumph on Batteries

Is your trolley beginning to lag when you hit the 18th, or (hopefully not) are you beginning to lag by that time? Well, how about changing your trolley battery to something more lightweight and modern.

We offer a full selection of lead acid and lithium batteries in the shop which provide a solution to all your needs. From 18 hole batteries to 36 hole batteries, even the LitePower lithium batteries which weigh 2.5kg (ridiculous!).

The benefit of lithium is more longevity, more reliability and therefore a longer lasting warranty to boot. Our battery prices start at £74.99 and we are more than happy to talk you through the benefits and options of all the batteries we stock - just ask!

To give you some info on expected battery longevity:

Lithium - 5 year warranty
If it fails within the first 2 years - F.O.C replacement
If it fails in the 3rd year - 50% off a new battery
If it fails in the 4th year - 30% off a new battery
If it fails in the 5th year - 15% off a new battery

Lead Acid - 1 year warranty
If it fails within the year, you receive a F.O.C replacement.
If the battery should be replaced free of charge, the warranty does not start again and only lasts until the initial battery warranty would have run out. It's a complicated business with the batteries so I hope this goes someway to helping you understand the warranties etc. Again, we're happy to help if you have any questions.

Skycaddie update for Alwoodley (This is ready)

If you happen to have a SkyCaddie watch or SkyCaddie Aire, you can now re download the Alwoodley course. The new update contains the ladies course & course pars; the new 15 bunkers and our new tees. The course was mapped out by one of SkyCaddies very own 'mappers.' They come and walk the course/check the distance of everything before uploading it to the Skycaddie site - must be a tough job!

AIZ Weekly Tips This week and for the next few weeks the AIZ team are going to give you all a few simple, quick tips to help you enjoy your golf at Alwoodley more.

John -

With the ground wet and very limited run, tweak up those adjustable drivers and hit your drives further through the air.

If you are unsure about how to do this, pop into the pro shop and one of us will help you out.

Joe -

If you really want to improve your range sessions, change your target/club after every 3-5 shots. Don't hit the same club at the same target for a full session. How often do you hit the same 10 shots in a round?

Jack -

With the course/greens quite wet, why not try using a more lofted club to chip/pitch into the green? If you need to work on your technique a little, why not get in touch for a lesson?

Winter Coaching Offers from the AIZ

So, the winter's coming, but that's not all bad news because here at the AIZ we are again running some great winter coaching offers which is enough to brighten up the darker days I'm sure! The offers below are designed to help you hit straighter longer drives, hit more greens, chip in closer, hit it closer out of the sand and hole more putts.

This year we're looking to concentrate on the results we can offer you. Before we undertake any course of lessons we will focus on the results that you want to see. From there we can set out the lessons to work around this and have some measurement of your improvement over the time you spend with us. So, whatever aspect of your game you want to improve, pick one of the following 'Caribbean' themed lesson plans and we will cater it to your needs:

'The Tobago 20'
4 x 20min lessons for the price of three.

'The St Kitts 7'
7 x 30min lessons for the price of five.

'The Antigua Assessment'
25% off our unique Full Game Assessment Plan.

Click here to find out more about what to expect.

These winter offers start on 1st November and all lessons should be taken before the end of February 2015. And remember the covered part of the range and the indoor net mean lessons can still take place regardless of the winter weather.

Immediate visual feedback in all lessons.

Visual AidThe iPad Air together with the excellent V1 golf app is also something I will be using in the vast majority of my lessons. It allows me to give you, immediate visual feedback and comparisons with professional's swings whilst actually on the range with you.

This has already proved a success and has made it even easier to show golfers the desired swing positions we're trying to get to, and how we can do it.

Add this to brief post lesson e-mailed notes and you have an unbeatable combination.

I look forward to helping you improve your golf, to book a lesson or custom fit please click here.

Should you take up the AIZ Full Game Assessment?

After not playing much for a few years due to family, work commitments and a lack of confidence Paul Fox decided it was time to get his game back in order. So Paul booked in at the AIZ for the Full Game Assessment. After meeting up with me, completing the questionnaire and playing a few holes while I took video images of Pauls game I then wrote up the Assessment and suggested a Plan of Action. Paul was delighted with this and the e-mail he sent confirmed to me how this great service really works.

'Evening John, many thanks for these notes.
I've really enjoyed reading them, and seeing the supporting visuals which I've found very helpful. I'm so pleased to see the grip thing so obviously as I now realise I have got the completely wrong thing in my mind, as my left hand is the problem, not my right as I thought so simple.
Also I now fully see the alignment issue which I've always known was an issue.
Equally enlightening is the left knee issue, staggering to see it so obviously portrayed on film and especially when you see how it should be done.
Can't wait to get stuck into those issues and better understand them and some possible drills to use for practice.
I feel better already from reading the notes and knowing not everything is completely a lost cause and that actually confidence and practice are down to me.
I'm very committed to getting stuck into it this year and just need some pointers to be working on. I will also commit to the drills and stats you have suggested as I really do need to understand the relevance and accountability better.

Many thanks really appreciate those comments and heads up.
It was important for me to see all the issues and the connectivity in context.
Looking forward to getting on the range, and then shortly thereafter the course.
See you Saturday at 2.45pm
Many thanks again
Paul'

Improve Your Distance Control & Lower Your Scores

The market for measuring devices in golf has gone through the roof in recent years and with good reason! These things are an immediate way to help lower your scores without any practice. HOWEVER, as your golf pro I still expect to see you all hitting balls on the range regularly!!

The main benefit is simple, you know the distance to the obstacles or the green/pin. That's great and is obviously a help instead of having to 'eye-ball' the distance, but, even better than that is that you will quickly learn what exact yardage you hit each club. THIS, is the key bit. When you currently stand there with 80 or 120 or 160 yards into the green, do you know what club to hit and exactly how hard to hit it? With a range finder it becomes a breeze in no time. No more guesswork, you can fully commit to the shot and improve your distance control drastically.

We stock the Skycaddie GPS devices such as the very popular Watch and the NEW improved Aire II:

Both of these come with free yearly subscriptions, distances to the front, middle and back and are as accurate as you will get! They're a superb start out device, or something basic for someone who wants the front/middle/back yardages and nothing too complicated. The new Aire II also has an optional upgrade which gives you more green info and info on carry, hazard and lay up distances.

Laser wise we have the Bushnell V3 and the Nikon Coolshot which both offer exact yardages to anything you decide to 'zap.' Easy to use and extremely precise, these things are used throughout the professional ranks for a reason.

Christmas Draw

The Christmas Party and so the drawing of the winners is only five weeks away so please don't forget to get your tickets. The cost per ticket is £2.50 and I hope you will agree that the prizes, listed below are once again very well worth winning. Happy Christmas!!

iPadGC2 Proving to be a Massive Success

After investing in a state of the art launch monitor earlier this year, I can safely say this has been one of the best golfing purchases I've ever made. Instant feedback to the iPad Air lets me communicate very simply to the player why we're seeing the shot distance/curvature that we're seeing. From here it's a case of trying other clubs as comparisons and chatting through the figures we see so that the player is on the same page and not in the dark.

This has really revolutionised the fitting process and leaves no stone unturned. If you'd like to improve your golf with a set of custom fit clubs/woods then click here.

Young Guns Academy with the Golf Foundation Junior Golf Passport.
Our junior coaching on a Saturday morning is undergoing a big change! To help get our juniors to the 'next level' quicker, we're changing the format from an hour long group lesson, to 30 minute individual lessons. This means that with the help of the Golf Foundation Junior Passport Scheme we can make the coaching specific for the needs of the junior at hand.
The Junior Golf Passport covers the following key areas of golf:

The price for a half hour lesson is £10.00 (Under age 12) can be booked at your convenience and can be taken any day/time (as long as we have a member of staff free). This should hopefully be more convenient as we know some of you struggle to stick to the 10am Saturday time as you have other commitments.
