The Bousey Trophy A group of members met last Sunday morning to play for the Bousey Trophy. The winning of the trophy is not really important as this is a day to remember David Bousfield and have some fun. David was a bit colour blind so he was hardly ever seen in matching colours so the dress theme for the competitors was bright non-matching clothing. After the golf, they adjourned to the clubhouse for a slap-up meal. All of which I know David would have loved.

Captain & Pro Challenge Matches
For the first match of this year’s series, Captain Mike Sleath and I knew we were up against it because the challengers were John Hartley and David Downie. They are a formidable pairing as both made finals in major knockouts this year so they would be a tough pair to get past. Mike and I ‘ham ‘n’ egged’ it well and played the front nine well under par only to see David & John match us shot for shot. Mike then raised his game to another level that saw him make six net threes on the back nine, again though we couldn’t shake off our opponents and when a couple of four-footers were conceded at the last the match was halved. What a brilliant game played in a great spirit!
Mike and I have recently added some new dates for the matches so please pop your name on the board we look forward to having more fun games.

Pro's Comp
The course was open last Saturday but due to 24 hours of torrential rain, it was on just playable. This and England playing in the Rugby World Cup Semi-final meant that golfers were very scarce! So I have pushed the ‘Rugby Competition’ back to the 16th November. This, after the November Stableford on the 2nd November, means that there will be three Pro’s Winter Order of Merit golf on each of the next three Saturdays in November. Here they are: (OM) Saturday 9th November GREENKEEPERS REVENGE! (OM) Saturday 16th November RUGBY COMPETITION (OM) Saturday 23rd November DOUBLE-TRIPLE-DOUBLE UP

Men's - Winter Winds
A quick reminder that the Winter Winds qualifying starts on Nov 1st! If you’re unsure of what that is, or how it works, here’s the bumf: From the 1st November until the end of March 2019, gentlemen members have the option of entering as many Winter Winds qualifying medal cards as they wish by paying 50p in the pro shop prior to playing. If the aggregate of your best three medal scores is in the top 16 at the end of March, you qualify for the Knockout stages played through the Summer. This is a great competition that gives you an incentive to play more throughout the winter months. Last year’s winner was Garry Cuthbert who beat Peter Durbin in the Final to make it two in a row. He will no doubt be out to make it a hat trick! John Mate deserves a name check too. He qualifies with solid scores year on year, and should be a hot favourite to at least get through to the last 16 yet again.

Ladies - Frozen Fingers
The Frozen Fingers qualifying started on the 1st October and will run to the 20th March, lady members can enter as many frozen fingers qualifying Medal rounds as they wish (free of charge). The aggregate of each player’s best two rounds will count and the top 8 players and ties qualify for the Match-Play Stages played in next summer. Helene Manchester did two great scores and led the qualifiers, one of which was of 63. Last Year’s overall winner was Jan Ledger who beat Jess Wales in the final.

Christmas Draw
My Christmas draw is now up and running. I know it seems really early to be talking about Christmas but I think I am a good month behind most of the supermarkets. Anyway, as in other years, the prizes are fantastic with a Motocaddy M1 Electric trolley worth £500 up for grabs. The tickets are £2.50 each and are available to members only. Oh and as ever I will be doing my very special deal of four tickets for a tenner…

In 2018, only January saw more rainfall in the UK than November. Not the happiest of stats to highlight, but one that shows the inevitability of being caught in a few downpours this month, making a waterproof and spacious bag vital if you want to tackle the unpredictable British weather. |
| Titleist Players 4 Plus StaDry Stand Bag | The name of this lightweight bag says all you need to know when it comes to its waterproof ability. Add in seam-sealed zippers to protect your personal belongings and six spacious pockets, and we think you'll be hard-pressed finding a better option.
|
| Titleist StaDry Cart Bag | Its big brother equivalent has the same waterproof fabric but in a more spacious cart option. We know plenty of you enjoy using an electric trolley out on the course, and we think this might well be the perfect bag to go with it. |
