Oli in the AIZ
This week on Oli in the AIZ we look at the draw shot, the draw is an extremely desirable shot to play and a large portion of the players on tour and in clubs want to hit the draw for maximum distance. Watch the video to see how and why we hit this shot.
The studio has been a massive success so far and if you have not had the opportunity to experience it and how TrackMan can improve your game please call 0113 2689603 or CLICK HERE to book!

Lydia
Shop Assistant Lydia Derbyshire, will be leaving Alwoodley on the 7th March 2020. Lydia will take up a similar position at Ilkley Golf Club but with much reduced hours, which she says will allow her more time to work on her golf. Lydia has been an excellent, reliable and hard-working member of my staff and it has been a pleasure to work with her. I will miss our chats on subjects like nail varnish, hair colouring and eyelash care! I hope you will join me in wishing her every success in the future.

Pro's Competition - 'Yards = Points'
More Winter Order of Merit points are up for grabs this Saturday when the ‘Yards = Points’ Competition takes place. This is an old favourite, full handicap, play the course match play style when a hole is won the yardage of the hole is converted to points, halve a hole and receive 100 points. Last year’s winner was Peter Durbin who mounted up an incredible 4023pts, I look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

The Pro's Winter Order of Merit
Ian Markers win in the Challenge a Pro competition has hoisted him up to third spot and he has his eyes firmly on Randall Casson who’s slipped to second place and Chris Gilman who heads the table. Chris has scored points in all four events so far; a feat only matched by Clive Marjoram who is in sixth place. |
| Consistent Chris tops the table. |

Frozen Fingers Update From October to the 20th March, lady members can enter as many frozen fingers qualifying Medal rounds as they wish (free of charge). The aggregate of each player’s best two rounds will count and the top 8 players and ties qualify for the Match-Play Stages played in the summer. Jess Wales has poleaxed the field with an outstanding, amazing nett 62 which has blasted her to a 15 shot lead at the top of the qualifying sheet. (Should the ladies handicap slashing committee meet?) Laura Crawford and Jan Ledger are co-second placers on 152. There are still two qualifying spots available. Click here to get in contact. |

Winter Winds Update
A quick reminder that the Winter Winds qualifying ends on 31st March 2020. If you’re unsure of what this is, or how it works, here’s the info: From the 1st November until the end of March, gentlemen members have the option of entering as many Winter Winds qualifying medal cards as they wish by paying 50p in the pro shop prior to playing. |
If the aggregate of your best three medal scores is in the top 16 at the end of March, you qualify for the Knockout stages played through the summer. Heavyweight contenders for qualifying spots are jostling for position. Back to back Matchplay winner and looking for an unprecedented hat trick, Garry Cuthbert sits on 202 and is certain to qualify for this summer’s Match Play. Man of the moment and on top of the pile is Ron Brassington. Ron has shot nett 64, 67, 69 for a total of 200. Nice play Ron, but will that score top the pile come the end of March? As it stands John Swarbrick and Mike Sleath are tied in 16th spot with 215 but my crystal ball tells me that 208 will be the mark this year, let’s see.

New Stock
Even though the weather is still pretty wintery, new stock is flooding in at the AIZ every day! Here’s a couple of new additions from this week : For men and ladies, there is the fresh new Glenbrae Merino ¼ Zip Sweaters. Merino is a very fine, high-quality wool, I own a couple of Merino sweaters and they feel and look great on. The ladies aren’t crested so they can be worn on or off the course.

A recent golf survey highlighted some very interesting statistics regarding golfers' habits and their equipment, two of which you can see in the image below. |
These stats might not mean a lot to you at face value, but the general recommendation is that you change your grips once a year, especially if you play regular golf. The truth is, grips lose their efficiency over time and when they do we end up gripping the club too tightly, which restricts our ability to swing the club freely. Just something for you to think about... | |
|
It's not only important that your grips are regularly replaced, but you need to ensure you get the correct sized grips. Our FREE grip fitting promotion has just started in-store and we recommend everyone giving it a try. Call us on 0113 268 9603 to take advantage. |
